|I've come down in the world a way.|
“ ‘I am Raguel, who is the Vengeance of the Lord,’ I told him. ‘I serve the Name directly. It is my mission to discover the nature of this deed, and to take the Name’s vengeance on those responsible. My questions are to be answered.’"
"What happened? I left home, and I lost my way, and these days home's a long way back. Sometimes you do things you can regret, but there's nothing you can do about them. Times change. Doors close behind you. You move on. You know?"
"I am Revenge: sent from the [heavenly] kingdom,
To ease the gnawing vulture of thy mind,
By working wreakful vengeance on thy foes.
Come down, and welcome me to this world's light;
Confer with me of murder and of death:
There's not a hollow cave or lurking-place,
No vast obscurity or misty vale,
Where bloody murder or detested rape
Can couch for fear, but I will find them out;
And in their ears tell them my dreadful name,
Revenge, which makes the foul offender quake."
Raguel isn't much of an angel anymore. He was never much of anything else, but now, he's hardly even that.
It's best to think of him as a man these days, just another lost traveler making his way through the world. He'll sit next to you, spend some time, share a story and a cigarette –if you're lucky, he'll tell you his. He'll listen to yours, take some of the weight from your shoulders, give you a shoulder to cry on, but no more affection than that. Not unless you deserve it.
He knows how closely love and death are linked.
Disclaimer: Raguel and "Murder Mysteries" are the product of Neil Gaiman's imagination. Skeet Ulrich belongs very much to himself (and all icons are made by starboard unless otherwise noted). I don't claim to be either of them, nor am I using this character or journal to make a profit. Obviously. Please don't sue, I have less money than he does.
